How to download invoices and receipts from apps billed through Stripe

You don’t sign in to Stripe. Open the invoice or receipt email the app sent you and click “Download invoice” or “Download receipt”, or open the app’s billing settings, which often link to a Stripe customer portal with your full invoice history.

Short answer

  • From an email: the invoice email usually has the PDF attached, and its link opens a Stripe page with “Download invoice” and, once paid, “Download receipt”.
  • For past months: open billing in the app. It links to a Stripe customer portal where “Invoice history” lists every invoice.
  • There is no Stripe login for customers. Refunds, cancellations and corrected invoices come from the app, not from Stripe.
  • A new company name or tax ID only appears on invoices issued after you change it.

Before you start

  • Access to the email inbox the app sends billing emails to
  • Or a login to the app with billing access (often the owner or an admin, depending on the app)

Get the PDF from the invoice or receipt email

Fastest when you need one recent invoice.

  1. 1

    Find the billing email

Search your inbox for the app’s name together with “invoice” or “receipt”. Each business chooses which Stripe emails it sends (finalized invoices, receipts after payment, refunds, credit notes), so you may have only a receipt, only an invoice, or both.

  2. 2

    Check the attachments first

When Stripe emails an invoice it attaches a PDF of that invoice. When a subscription renews automatically and receipts are switched on, the receipt email carries two PDFs: the invoice and the receipt. Some apps turn attachments off, in which case you only get links.

  3. 3

    Open the hosted invoice page

Click the invoice link in the email. It opens a private page, usually on invoice.stripe.com, showing the amount, status and line items of that invoice.

    invoice.stripe.com/i/…
  4. 4

Download the invoice and the receipt

Click “Download invoice” to save the invoice PDF. After the invoice is paid, “Download receipt” saves the receipt PDF as well.

    docs.stripe.com/invoicing/hosted-invoice-page

Invoice links expire 30 days after the due date, and never later than 120 days. Receipt links (pay.stripe.com/receipts/…) expire after 30 days. On an expired link Stripe usually asks for your email address and sends you a fresh copy; otherwise it shows the business’s contact details.

Download past invoices from the customer portal

Use this for older invoices or when you need a whole year.

  1. 1

    Open billing inside the app

Sign in to the app and open its billing or subscription settings. Look for a button such as “Manage billing”, “Billing portal” or “View invoices”. The wording is the app’s own, so it differs from app to app.

  2. 2

Or use the portal login link

Some apps give you a Stripe login link instead. Enter the email address the app bills, and Stripe emails you a link that opens your portal. If nothing arrives, the address probably doesn’t match the one the app has on file.

    billing.stripe.com/p/login/…

Apps can serve the portal from their own domain, so the address may not contain stripe.com.

  3. 3

    Find Invoice history

The portal shows your plan, payment method, billing information and, unless the app hid it, “Invoice history”. Use “View more invoices” or the page controls to reach older ones, then open an invoice and use “Download invoice” or “Download receipt”.

    docs.stripe.com/customer-management

Portal sessions are short. A new session expires after 5 minutes if unused, and 1 hour after your last activity. Reopen it from the app if the page stops responding.

  4. 4

    Save each month you need

Stripe’s documentation describes downloading invoices one at a time from the list. It doesn’t describe a bulk download for customers, so open each invoice you need and save its PDF.

Put your company name and tax ID on future invoices

  1. 1

    Open Billing information

In the customer portal, find “Billing information” and click “Update information”. You can change the name, billing address and phone number. A “Tax ID” field appears only if the app enabled it.

Stripe supports common business IDs such as a US EIN, an Australian ABN and a Hong Kong BR number. Customer tax IDs print in the header of invoice and credit note PDFs.

  2. 2

    Update before the next invoice

Stripe copies your name, address and tax IDs onto an invoice when it is finalized, and later edits don’t change finalized invoices. For a corrected copy of an old invoice, ask the app’s support team. Only the business can void an invoice and issue a new one.

Invoice or receipt: which one do you need?

For subscription and invoice payments, Stripe itemizes the receipt too, with line items, discounts and taxes. Many finance teams keep both: the invoice for the bill, the receipt for the payment date.

How to tell an app bills through Stripe

  • The invoice link opens a page on invoice.stripe.com.
  • A receipt link starts with pay.stripe.com/receipts.
  • The billing portal address starts with billing.stripe.com, unless the app uses its own domain.
  • The vendor’s help says so. Anthropic’s help center, for example, says Claude invoices open in a new Stripe tab.

Refunds and credit notes

A refund doesn’t edit the original invoice. For invoiced charges the business usually issues a credit note that reduces it, and then refunds your card, adds credit to your account balance for the next invoice, or refunds you outside Stripe. Credit notes have their own PDF, and Stripe emails them if the business turned that on.

To ask for a refund, contact the app. Stripe’s help center says it can’t issue refunds or cancel subscriptions on a business’s behalf.

Your invoices live with the app, not in a Stripe account

Stripe processes payments for the business, and its help pages for customers point you back to that business. Creating your own Stripe account won’t show what you bought. Your documents come from the app’s emails, its billing page or its portal link.

If a card statement shows a business you don’t recognize, Stripe’s charge lookup tool helps you find the business and its contact details.

Language and currency

Stripe writes invoice emails, invoice PDFs, receipts and credit notes in your preferred language, from more than 40 supported languages. The language comes from the preferred language the app saved for you, or the app’s default, so ask the app if it’s wrong.

The invoice currency is set by the business. Some apps switch on Stripe’s Adaptive Pricing, which lets you pay a hosted invoice in your local currency. If you pay a foreign-currency invoice by card, your statement amount can differ from the invoice because of your card’s exchange rate and fees.

Paidwhere

Turn a year of Stripe PDFs into one list

Downloaded twelve invoices one by one? The free Invoice to CSV converter turns digital PDFs into a spreadsheet in your browser, and the files never leave your computer.

The Paidwhere desktop app, coming soon, will pick up each PDF as it lands in a folder you choose, rename it by date, vendor and amount, and count the emailed copy and the downloaded copy once.

Questions

Can I log in to Stripe to see all my invoices?
No. Each app keeps its own invoices, and Stripe’s help for customers sends you back to the business you paid. Open the app’s billing settings, which often link to a Stripe customer portal with your invoice history, or use the links in the billing emails.
The invoice link in my email has expired. How do I get the PDF?
Invoice links expire 30 days after the due date (120 days at most) and receipt links after 30 days. Open the link anyway: Stripe usually asks for your email address and sends a new copy with working links. You can also download the same invoice from the app’s billing portal.
How do I get my company name and tax ID on the invoice?
In the customer portal, open “Billing information”, click “Update information” and enter the name, address and, if the app allows it, your tax ID. This applies to invoices finalized after the change. For an invoice already issued, ask the app whether it can void and reissue it.
Why did I get both an invoice and a receipt?
The invoice is the bill and the receipt confirms that the payment succeeded. When a subscription renews automatically, Stripe’s receipt email can carry both PDFs. Keep the invoice for the line items and tax, and the receipt for the payment date.
Who do I ask for a refund or to cancel?
The app you paid. Stripe says it can’t issue refunds or cancel subscriptions on behalf of businesses. If the business doesn’t respond, Stripe suggests contacting your bank.
