Paidwhere vs. searching your inbox
Searching email for “receipt” works when you remember the vendor. It struggles when you only remember the amount, when the receipt is a PDF attachment or a photo, or when it never came by email at all.
What inbox search does well
- Finding an email when you know who sent it
- Full-text search of email bodies
What it can’t do
- Search the amount inside a PDF attachment as a number
- Total your spending by month or category
- Include receipts that came as a photo, a ZIP or a download
- Tell a $60 invoice from a $600 one without opening both
Use both
Export your receipt emails once with Google Takeout (or save them as .eml) and drop the file on Paidwhere: each receipt is read on your computer and filed, and other mail is skipped. Your inbox stays as it is. Forwarding new receipts automatically to a private Paidwhere address is coming soon. The email guide shows every step.
Invoices that file themselves
Paidwhere for Mac and Windows reads invoices on your computer and files them into year/month folders with a ledger. Coming soon.
