How to download invoices from OpenAI (ChatGPT and the API)

   Open Settings

   Sign in at chatgpt.com, click your profile icon and choose “Settings”.

   Open Billing, or Account > Payment

   If Settings has a “Billing” tab, open it. It holds your subscription, payment methods and available billing history. If you see “Payment” under “Account” instead, click “Manage” next to it to open the billing portal.

   Download from Invoice History

   In the billing portal, the “Invoice History” section lists your past invoices. Download a copy of each one you need.

   Empty or missing? Check that you’re in the right account or workspace. Your billing email can differ from the email you sign in with. Subscriptions started in the App Store or Google Play never appear here.

ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu

   Switch to the workspace as an owner

   Workspace owners and admins can open Billing, but only owners can view invoices and change billing details or payment methods.

   Open Workspace settings > Billing > Invoices

   Click your profile icon, choose “Workspace settings”, select “Billing”, then “Invoices” to see the invoices for that workspace.

   “Manage plan > Payment method” also opens the billing portal, which holds past invoices.

   Enterprise and Edu

   Owners and admins select the workspace in the Global Admin Console and open Billing. Only owners can view Invoices. Your agreement sets the billing period and invoice schedule.

Subscribed in the ChatGPT app (Apple or Google)

These purchases are billed by Apple or Google, so they don’t appear in OpenAI’s billing portal.

   Apple: Purchase History

   On iPhone, open the App Store, tap your photo or initials, then “Apps & Purchase History” > “Purchase History”, and find ChatGPT. On a computer, sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com. Apple also emails a receipt each time the subscription renews.

   Google Play: order history

   In the Play Store app, tap your profile icon > “Payments & subscriptions” > “Budget & history”. On the web, open the order history page below. Google emails an order confirmation to the Google Account that paid.

   Check your permission

   You need permission to manage billing for the API organization. Organization owners can view billing details.

   Open the API billing overview

   Sign in to the API platform and open your organization’s billing page. This is also where you buy credits (“Buy credits” or “Add to credit balance”).

   Open Billing history

   Billing history lists your payments and the invoices or receipts available for them. Each prepaid credit purchase and each automatic recharge is a separate payment.

   Enterprise API invoices

   Enterprise customers are billed at the end of each calendar month unless their contract says otherwise. Invoices are typically issued within 2 weeks after the cycle ends and can be downloaded from the Billing section.

   API credits are sold in USD only, expire after 1 year and are non-refundable except in the cases OpenAI lists, such as a verified billing error.

Add your company name and tax ID

Changes only affect future invoices. To ask for a corrected copy of an issued invoice, contact OpenAI Support through the Help Center chat with the invoice number, what should change, and the billing name, address and Tax ID or VAT ID you want shown. A reissue isn’t guaranteed. If a Tax ID turns out to be invalid, OpenAI may remove it and charge applicable taxes.

• ChatGPT, newer layout: Settings > Billing, under “Billing information” select “Edit”, add your Tax ID and select “Save”.
• ChatGPT, older layout: Settings > Account, select “Manage” under Payment, then “Update information” under Billing information in the portal.
• ChatGPT Business: as the owner, Workspace settings > Billing > Settings > Edit, add your Tax ID, then Save.
• API: your organization’s billing preferences at platform.openai.com/settings/organization/billing/preferences.

ChatGPT and the API are billed separately

They run on separate billing systems. A ChatGPT subscription doesn’t pay for API usage, and the API’s Billing history doesn’t list ChatGPT charges. Subscribing on the web and in the app can also mean two separate charges.

Currency and billing dates

ChatGPT on the web bills in local currency in many countries, such as AUD in Australia and USD in the United States. An active subscription keeps its current currency; to switch, cancel and subscribe again after the current period ends. API credits are sold in USD only.

A monthly ChatGPT subscription renews on the day of the month you subscribed, and OpenAI doesn’t change invoice dates. Enterprise agreements set their own billing periods.

Questions

Why don’t I get a monthly invoice for my API usage?

OpenAI issues monthly API invoices to Enterprise customers. Individual and team API accounts pay with prepaid credits or automatic card charges, and Billing history lists those payments with any available invoices or receipts.

My Invoice History is empty. Where are my invoices?

Make sure you’re signed in to the account or workspace that pays; the billing email can differ from your login email. If you subscribed in the App Store or Google Play, check that store’s purchase history. If you still can’t find them, contact OpenAI Support with your account email.

Can OpenAI add my company name to an invoice that was already issued?

Updating billing details only changes future invoices. You can ask OpenAI Support to review an issued invoice by sending the invoice number and the details you want shown, but OpenAI says a reissue isn’t guaranteed.

Can I change the date my ChatGPT invoice is issued?

No. OpenAI doesn’t support changes to invoice dates. Monthly subscriptions renew on the date you subscribed.

I pay for ChatGPT through my iPhone. Can OpenAI send me an invoice?
