Your paperwork stays on your computer
What Paidwhere does with your files, and what it never does. The Mac and Windows apps are coming soon.
- Your files stay on your computer
- Invoices, receipts and the ledger live in a folder you choose on your Mac or PC. Paidwhere’s servers never store your documents or your ledger, so there is no cloud copy of them to leak.
- Read on the device
- PDF text is read directly, and scans and photos go through the operating system’s own text recognition: Apple Vision on Mac, the built-in Windows OCR on Windows. Most invoices never leave your computer in any form.
- AI only for hard pages, text only
- When the built-in reader can’t make sense of a page, its text can be sent over an encrypted connection to an AI reader (Anthropic’s Claude). Only that page’s text goes, never the file. Paidwhere doesn’t store it, and the provider’s terms don’t allow training on it.
- Questions answered locally
- Questions like “where did I pay $60 last November?” are answered on your computer from your own ledger.
- No access to your mailbox
- Paidwhere never asks for your email password and never signs in to your mailbox. You hand it files, such as a Google Takeout export, or forward receipts to your private address. Forwarded mail arrives like any e-mail, is encrypted for your computers in the same step, is kept only in that form until one of them picks it up (then deleted, 7 days at most), and only senders you allowed get through. A record of each message (date, sender, subject, size) stays on your account page for 12 months; never its content.
- Only the folders you allow
- The app reads the folder you choose and, if you turn it on, your Downloads folder. macOS and Windows ask for your permission first. Files are copied out of Downloads; your own file stays where it is.
- No health information
- Documents that look like medical records or bills are left unread.
- What our servers keep
- Your email address and your plan. Not your invoices, receipts, ledger or emails.
- Payments by Paddle
- Card details are handled by Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record. Paidwhere never sees or stores your card number.
- Backups are in your hands
- Because nothing is in our cloud, keep a backup of your Paidwhere folder: Time Machine, File History, or keep the folder in iCloud Drive or Dropbox. It holds plain PDFs and an Excel file, so it opens without Paidwhere.
