How to get receipts for App Store, iCloud+ and subscription purchases
Every App Store, iCloud+ and in-app subscription charge from Apple is listed at reportaproblem.apple.com, and Apple emails a receipt for each one. Sign in with the Apple Account that paid, or search your inbox for “receipt from Apple”.

Short answer
- On the web: sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com to see your purchases. If you only know the amount, search for it.
- On iPhone or iPad: open the App Store, tap your photo, then “Apps & Purchase History” and “Purchase History”.
- In your inbox: search for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”. Turn on “Renewal Receipt Emails” to get one every time a subscription renews.
- Subscriptions you started inside an app and paid through Apple (ChatGPT, for example) are billed by Apple, so the receipt comes from Apple, not from the app.
Before you start
- The Apple Account that made the purchase. If you use more than one, you may need to check each.
- For purchases by family members: the family organizer’s Apple Account.
- For Apple Store hardware orders: the Apple Account used at checkout, or the order number.

Subscriptions bought inside apps (ChatGPT and others)
If you subscribed inside an iPhone or iPad app and paid with Apple’s in-app purchase, Apple charges you and Apple sends the receipt. You manage and cancel it under Settings, your name, “Subscriptions”, not on the app’s website.
OpenAI, for example, says ChatGPT subscriptions started through the App Store don’t appear in ChatGPT’s own invoice history. You find them in your Apple purchase history and in Apple’s email receipt sent on each renewal. The same pattern applies to other apps billed through Apple.
If you can’t find an Apple receipt for a subscription, you may have bought it from the company directly. Your card statement shows who billed you.
Some apps let you pay outside Apple: external purchase links, alternative app marketplaces where available, and Mac apps installed from the web. Apple can’t help with those purchases. The receipt and any refund come from the developer.
Family Sharing: who pays and where the receipt is
When the family organizer turns on Purchase Sharing, the organizer pays for everyone’s purchases unless an adult member uses their own payment method. A member’s Apple Account balance is used first; anything left is charged to the organizer.
As the organizer, you can see members’ purchases. At reportaproblem.apple.com, tap or click the Apple Account button and choose a family member, or choose All to list everything charged to the shared payment method. In the App Store’s Purchase History you can also filter by family member. Each receipt shows which Apple Account made the purchase.
Apple Store orders (iPhone, Mac and other hardware)
Products bought from the Apple Store have their own order page, separate from App Store purchase history. For online orders, sign in to your Order Listing (Order Status) page with your Apple Account, select an item to open the order details, and choose “View Invoice” at the top. Apple creates the invoice once an item has shipped or been picked up.
No Apple Account? You can look up an order with the order number and your email address or postal code. For purchases in a physical Apple Store, keep the receipt you were given at checkout; if you lost it, ask that store or Apple Support.
Refunds and charges you don’t recognize
- To request a refund, sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com, choose “I’d like to”, then “Request a refund”. Pick a reason and the item, then submit. Apple says to expect an update in 24 to 48 hours, and the money can take longer to reach your payment method.
- A charge shown as apple.com/bill on your statement can be for apps, subscriptions, music, movies or other Apple content. Sign in at reportaproblem.apple.com to see what it was.
- Some banks show a View Receipt option next to Apple charges on their website or app. Apple then shows the item details and emails you that they were viewed. Not every bank offers this.
Using Apple receipts for expenses
Apple’s receipts arrive as emails, so keep the email (or a PDF of it) next to the matching line on your card statement. Because Apple can group several purchases into one charge, match by date, amount and order ID.
Whether an Apple receipt is enough for your tax return or your employer’s reimbursement rules depends on your situation. Check with your accountant or CPA.
Paidwhere
Keep Apple receipts with the rest of your expenses
Apple receipts are emails. Save them as .eml files or export your mailbox with Google Takeout, and Paidwhere, a Mac and Windows app coming soon, will read them on your computer, name each one by date, vendor and amount, and file it into a month folder.
Already saved some as PDFs? The free Invoice to CSV converter turns text PDFs into a spreadsheet right in your browser; the file never leaves your computer.
Questions
- Can Apple resend a receipt email?
- Apple’s help pages don’t describe a resend button. Search every mail folder, including spam, for “receipt from Apple” or “invoice from Apple”. The purchase itself stays in your purchase history at reportaproblem.apple.com and in the App Store, and turning on “Renewal Receipt Emails” makes sure future subscription renewals send one. For anything else, contact Apple Support.
- Where is the invoice for a ChatGPT subscription I bought on my iPhone?
- If you subscribed in the ChatGPT iOS app, Apple billed you. OpenAI’s help center says these receipts don’t appear in ChatGPT’s invoice history. Look in your Apple purchase history, or for the email receipt Apple sends each time the subscription renews.
- Why can’t I find a charge in my purchase history?
- The reasons Apple lists: you used a different Apple Account, a family member made the purchase, several purchases were grouped into one bill, or the charge is still pending. If none of these fit and there is no Apple receipt, another company may have billed you; your card statement shows who.
- How do I get an invoice for an iPhone or Mac bought on apple.com?
- Sign in to your Order Listing page on the Apple Store website, select the item to open the order details, and choose “View Invoice” at the top. The invoice appears after the item ships or is picked up.
